The CN MacMillan yard |
Description: |
Considered to be the largest of its kind in Canada and second largest on the continent, the CN MacMillan yard handles over 1 million rail cars annually which makes it busy place and with the increase of traffic on the CN, seems to be running to its full capacity. Here you can see CN local 545 (if I’m not mistaking) with CN 4761 and GMTX 2277 enter the yard (featured in the right) after picking up some cars from the storage tracks at the south end as a switching crew with CN 4116, slug 207 and 7253 (featured in the left) pulls out from one of the storage tracks in the left after dropping off their consist. In the very middle, you can see CN 7200 with slug 230 far off in the distance as they a new consist. |

It’s not often when you see a CN GP9 wear the 15th anniversary paint scheme. |

Note the unusual paint scheme on CN 7258 which is mostly worn by a few dash eights. |

CN 4800 |
Description: |
Heading East pulling a string of autoracks out of the CN MacMillan yard. I was quite surprised when I saw these GP38-2s engines pull out on to the mainline for now it is mostly dominated by GEVOs. These days, The GP38s mostly work as high power switch/yard engines for they are superior to the GP9s. Anyway it was a treat to see these units run on the mainline. |

Back when CN was short on power, leased and borrowed engines of all sorts could be seen on mainline freight. For historical reference I this rather messed up picture shows the kind of power CN borrowed and used. Notice that CN even used borrowed power from CP (!) (third unit) which practically never happens in these parts! |
